Metal roofs are very common or recreational properties like cabins. They are also popular to give large custom homes unique detailing. In either case, they are durable roofs with a long life. Still, all good things come to an end, even your metal roof.

Whether your metal roof needs repaired or replaced, we will take the time to get it done right for you. Here is how we get the job done for you.

Don’t put off a roof replacement you need. Most roofs are designed to last for 20-30 years but rain, wind, and abuse can shorten that time. The damage from a leaky roof can cause mold, collapsing drywall and other misery. Here is how we fix it for you.

Here is a beautiful metal roof! Note how the color and style matches the natural beauty of the home in its’ setting.

Okay. It is time to replace your roof. You have options. How about a metal roof? This isn’t the ugly corrugated aluminum material of days past. Modern metal roofs are made of materials including thick aluminum, as well as, zinc and galvanized metals like tin or copper. Metal comes in many colors and different finishes. Styles include a “shingle” look, slate and shake styles. Your decision to use metal over asphalt should depend on what is best for what you home. A metal roof has manufacturer warranties of up to 50 years and they can last 70! You can hurt a metal roof. Hail, falling limbs, and even walking on your roof can dent and damage it.

The cost of a metal roof both in materials and labors are significantly more than an asphalt shingle roof. The beauty of the roof (as seen above) is more than worth it for most property owners.

Architects like to use metal roofing because of the variety and unique look. Go with it. You will end up loving your metal roof.

Frequently asked questions

You will have so many questions as you embark on this process to repair and replace your roof with new shingles. Some of the critical questions every home or business owners should ask are below. You will have more questions. We have the answers. Read through these and then call us with the rest.

What is your License Number?

An important question to ask. If the roofer has a license number, you’re working with a roofer who complies with our building codes and licensing laws. Raven Roofing is licensed contractor. It also means that you will have potential more legal recourse in the event that something goes wrong with the work, too. Raven Roofing is compliant with the contracting laws in Utah.

Do you have Workman's Comp Insurance?
Asking this question is important. Workman’s comp covers our employees while on the job. If uninsured laborers do your roof, you could end up paying for the cost of injuries. Workman’s comp is mandated by the State of Utah and covers you, the roofer and the employee if an accident happens.
Do you use roofing subcontractors?

The simple answer is usually “no”. Although there are occasions when we may call in a more qualified worker who is an independent subcontractor. We ensure that our subcontractors might not have Contractor’s licenses and workman’s comp insurance.

What is the difference between a tear off and a 2nd layer layover?

With a second layer of on your home the newly installed shingles wear out prematurely. You also cannot address the potential trouble areas of your current roofing system if you just “layover” a new set of shingles. A new set of shingles overlayed may cover up poorly installed or failing wall flashing, step flashing, chimney flashing and rotten wood decking also known as sheeting. It may also cover up the fact that you are missing ice and water shield. For a better quality and longer lasting roof the old roof should always be removed before a new one is installed. On lower sloped shingle roofs, the top layer will conform to the bottom layer and then creates cupping. These cups start to hold water and ice on the roof which will leak into the home over time. Also, remember you cannot “layover” asphalt on a wood shingle roof or vice a versa.

Are you going to install drip edge/edge metal when you install my roof?
Drip edge and edge metal are small pieces of aluminum situated under the shingle, where it extends off the roof. This helps guide runoff into the gutters instead of behind them, protecting the wood and fascia of your roof. Some roofers may not install these protective barriers but it is ALWAYS in our bids.
Can I replace an asphalt shingle roof with a metal roof?
This is a good question. The short answer is “yes”. The longer answer is that because of weight, the metal roof may require reinforcement of your roof structure or trusses. Either way, Raven Roofing will review your options with you.
